This is a very simple, nutritious and staple dish my mother use to cook for us specially during festive seasons.  This always reminds me of my mother cooking delicious foods for all her siblings.  This dish takes very less time to cook.  Try it at your home.

Ingredients:

  • Potatoes – 4 medium sized.
  • Mustard (Rai) seeds – One tsp.
  • White Urad Dal (white lentil seed) – One tbs.
  • Channa Dal (yellow lentil) – One tbs.
  • Coriander leaves – finely chopped – one cup.
  • Salt to taste.
  • Cooking oil – One tbs.
  • Turmeric (Haldi) powder – Half tsp.
  • Green chill – Two – finely chopped.
  • Kalaonji (Onion) seeds – Half tsp.
  • Curry Leaves – Five to Six petals.

Method:

  • Wash the Potatoes nicely under running water.
  • Take a Pan and add water to it.  Add all Potatoes to this pan.  Potatoes should immerse completely inside the water.
  • Keep the pan on the cooking flame (heat) and boil the Potatoes until they are thoroughly cooked.  Insert a thin Knife of Tooth pick into the potato and see if it is piercing easily, which means potatoes are cooked.
  • Peel off the skin of the Potatoes.  Cut them into One inch by One inch size pieces.  Or break them with hand evenly into pieces.  Don’t mash the Potatoes.
  • Take a Kadai (Wok) and place it on the heat.
  • Add Cooking (any oil will do like Refined or Peanut or Olive or Sunflower oil) to the Kadai and allow it to heat up.
  • Add Kalaonji seeds and let it crackle.
  • Add Mustard seeds and let it crackle.
  • Add Channa Dal, White Urad Dal and Curry leaves and let it crackle.
  • Add Green chilli and fry it for a minute.
  • Add Turmeric powder and stir it well on medium heat.
  • Add boiled and sliced Potatoes to the Kadai and mix them well.  Toss the Potatoes gently and well so that the whole ingredients are coated on the Potatoes.
  • Reduce to heat to minimum and cover it with a lid.
  • Allow it to cook in the steam for 3 to 4 minutes.
  • Open the lid and again stir gently.
  • Turn off the heat.
  • Add chopped Coriander leaves and mix them well very gently.
  • Serve hot.
  • This delicious dish is ready to eat.
  • Happy Eating.
